This is a book about the everyday objects that were in use in Goan homes in the past. Some of these objects have lost their functionality today. However, the memories associated with these objects have remained through song, dance, lullabies and oviyos (songs sung at the grinding stone).
Heta Pandit, author of 11 books on Goan architecture, culture and heritage has translated Pournima Kerkar’s book Vismrutichya Umberthyavar (Marathi) into the English language to bring these memories, and this unknown aspect of Goa’s rich culture, to a wider audience.
Photographers Aaron Monteiro and Daniel d’souza have given a new, fresh lease of life to these objects that are sometimes stored away for occasional use or handled every single day by their users but also reflect the memories that are embedded in them.
